Lannarai is working to reconcile her role as Wilden and as battlemind. She has been called upon, like all other Wilden, to defend the Feywild and the material plane from the intrusions of the Far Realm and its monstrous taint in these realms. She, and a few like her, have been gifted with psionic abilities so as to better withstand the attacks by some of these aberrant creatures. This psionic gift has also granted her a greater deal of autonomy than previously seen in her kind, in part because, while the Wilden are a young race, the psionic Wilden are even more new to the world. While other Wilden might feel the influence of the Fey as an ebb and flow of knowledge, memories, and feelings, Lannarai experiences this connection almost like a dialogue as it is both filtered and bolstered through her gifts. This voice is generally a command, and in many situations she gives herself over to the Fey entirely, finding herself being moved like a puppet as she is directed, with memories of threats and plans for their defeat implanted directly into her mind. In some cases, especially when these plans involve more direct contact with other races and an approach other than mindless slaughter, she regains control of her faculties and the voice acts more like a guide, still ordering, but allowing her the willpower to push back and decide for herself based on the needs of the moment. Because of this give-and-take, Lannarai has begun to find herself more and more at odds with the urgings of the Fey. While she still accepts her role as its defender with pride and passion, she occasionally disagrees on the best way to achieve this end. As she interacts more and more with the material plane and expands her psionic abilities, her personality and beliefs have begun to take on characteristics of the races she encounters, much to her own confusion. This is where the group first encounters Lannarai.
She has sought out Kustaa in particular on the urgent command of the Fey. Sensing his fear, rage, and despair, she has been called to find him. While he is not such a grave threat as the monsters of the Far Realm, a wizard can be a destructive thing, and she is filled with some sense of foreboding at the thought of a maddened wizard lost to rage and despair. Her task is a fairly simple one: remove the threat. This does not necessarily mean remove Kustaa, so long as she can ensure that whatever becomes of him he does not place the natural world in any grave danger. Lannarai will most likely take this on as a more personal quest, though. Rather than simply appease his despair and avoid a catastrophe, Lannarai hopes to rebuild his connection to the Feywild. It pains her to see someone so lost, especially because, with her gift of individuality, it is not so farfetched that she might one day feel the same.
