Kustaa Lemminkäinen, Eladrin War Wizard
Kustaa pauses for a moment before passing through the western torii gate. With a rune-inscribed staff, well-crafted traveling gear and a pack filled for the road ahead, he turns for one last look at his beloved city of Myth Draennor before leaving the border of the Feywild. The ancient ivy-covered stone structures of eladrin architecture are even an amazing sight for a native; the moss and marble streets that organically weave around immense tree roots and massive trunks with will-o-wisp lanterns glowing in the night leading to secret gardens of alchemical and culinary delights, vast marketplace plazas of fountains and statuary bustling with kindred and various fey folk trading exotic wares and sharing tales from abroad, the spiraling towers of government and wizardry that majestically gleam when the sun lights them like a beacon, housing tiers that are silently wrapped in nature as comforting and familiar as his own family’s hearth… art and magic in everything.
A look to the left, the venerable college and it’s astronomical observatory field of dolmens, stone circles and instrument-filled viewing platforms where he studied and gazed at the stars for so many years. This being the institution where he recently graduated with honors from the schools of invocation, evocation and war, and where his younger brother would soon be attending to study conjuration and abjuration. Across a pond to the right, the temple of Corellon Larethian where his father is a member of the Fellowship of the Forgotten Flower, an order of adventuring knights who seek to recover lost artifacts. Beyond the hill to the north is the artist ward where his mother creates ceramics of the highest quality and his architect sister practices her craft with a team of skilled artisans.
The time has come for Kustaa to seek his fortune, explore the world, test his magic and mettle, and to act as an emissary for his people and return someday with accounts of his journeys. With blessings given, oaths sworn, and farewells said, he draws the cloak around his shoulders and hood about his head.
“A journey of a thousand miles…”, begins an academically confident voice from above accompanied with the sound of slight flapping wings.
“Begins with a single step”, finishes Kustaa.
“Yes, Quidnunc, my companion, I am ready” he adds to the glowing eyes of the translucent imp as it perches on his shoulder as they head towards the sunset.
(Kustaa is the Finnish version of name Gustav, which means “meditation staff”. Lemminkäinen is the name of one of the three magician-heroes of the Kalevala, the epic poem of Finland. Quidnunc is Latin for “what now?”, slang for a know-it-all.)
